Hosts and undefeated outfit Buxton Stars overcame a one-goal deficit to defeat Beterverwagting (BV) by a 2-1 score-line on Wednesday evening in the East Coast Demerara Senior’s Men’s League.

Staged at the Community Center grounds, the visitors got off to a perfect start as Dequan Ferguson found the back of the net. Receiving a flat cross from the left side at the top of the 18-yard area, Ferguson uncorked a powerful first-time strike that nestled into the lower right corner.

The aforementioned goal proved to be the only conversion that was recorded in the first half, as the score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval.

Upon the resumption of play, Buxton Stars were denied by the woodwork in the 52nd minute, as Gregory Stewart thumped a powerful right-footed strike from 21 yards outside the center of the area, which crashed onto the crossbar.

The hosts eventually recorded the equalizer in the form of Cleavon Barnwell in the 63rd minute. It was a moment of individual brilliance as Barnwell curled a right-footed free-kick from the top of the 18-yard area into the right corner.

The come-from-behind victory was then sealed in the 88th minute as substitute Gary Moonsammy made his presence felt, slotting unchallenged from inside the center of the box into the back of the net after receiving a flat pass from the right side of the field.

Meanwhile, Dynamic FC defeated Haslington via walkover in an earlier scheduled match.
