Sterling Products Limited (SPL) has officially partnered with the Petra Organization for the second consecutive year as a sponsor to aid in the successful staging of the 10th Courts Optical Pee Wee Boys U11 Football Championship. This was confirmed yesterday during a presentation ceremony staged at the entity’s East Bank Demerara headquarters. SPL’s sponsorship entails financial support as well as promotional activities. Also present at the presentation ceremony was Ramsay Ali, CEO of SPL.
Petra Organization Co-Director Troy Mendonca thanked the company for their continued support, noting that the positive advancement of sports is heavily influenced by the partnerships that are cultivated with private entities such as SPL.
Meanwhile, Yolanda McCammon, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of SPL, stated that the company is pleased to support initiatives that possess an educational component, noting that events of this nature are significant as they inculcate positive values in the respective participants.
The 32-team event will commence tomorrow. The grand finale will be on October 28th. All matches will be held at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown. The teams will be divided into eight groups of four, and the top two finishers from each section will advance to the elimination round. The respective losers in the knockout section will progress to the plate division to battle for positions 5–16.
Group A comprises defending champion Enterprise Primary, St. Aloysius, Colaaco, and Plaisance, while group B contains St. Pius, Rosignol, Winfer Gardens, and Den Amstel, and group C features Marian Academy, All Saints, St. Gabriel’s, and Smith’s Memorial.
Meanwhile, group D consists of North Georgetown, Belladrum, Tucville, and WestField, while group E contains Redeemer, Leonora, St. Stephen’s, and Tapakuma, and group F comprises Soesdyke, St. John, Annandale, and Kabakaburi.
In group G, the teams are West Ruimveldt, Potaro Primary, St. Ambrose, and Sophia, while Ann’s Grove, One Mile, F.E. Pollard, and Friendship make up group H.
The winner of the tournament will receive the championship trophy, gold medals, and a pair of uniforms. Each player will also be presented with an electronic tablet. The runners-up will collect a trophy, silver medals, and six balls. The third-place finisher will pocket a trophy and four balls, while the fourth-place side will walk away with a trophy.
On the individual side, a trophy and a pair of football cleats will be presented to the eventual most valuable player, highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper.
