Dear Editor,
The carnival-like celebrations were marred by chaos and confusion along city streets (SN September 26) bringing an otherwise successful tournament to an unbefitting end. It was a blot on GAW’s splendid, hard fought victory.
It has to be seen as bad planning to hold such an activity on a working day. Were the planners asleep when they arrived at this decision? Was the activity planned in isolation? The event seemed to be executed in an ad hoc, poorly coordinated manner with little thought to outcomes and consequences.
The organisers must return to the drawing board for next year’s grand hurrah.
The alleged unscrupulous behaviour of transportation service providers engaging in price gouging must be condemned. But in the end the organisers must share the blame for the disorganization which led to the ensuing confusion and citizens including commuters suffering. Better must be done next time.
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
