LONDON, CMC – Opener Kraigg Brathwaite’s wretched form for Warwickshire continued here yesterday when he perished without scoring in the season-ending County Championship game against Somerset.
The West Indies Test captain lasted only three balls before he was bowled by new-ball seamer Lewis Gregory off the fourth delivery of the innings.
Warwickshire ended day two of the contest at Edgbaston on 112 for three, however, captain Will Rhodes top-scoring with 42 before falling with three overs left in the evening.
Brathwaite, 30, has struggled badly since arriving earlier this month for the final four games of the Championship, and has managed just 45 runs from six innings.
Resuming the morning on 180 for eight, Somerset were bowled out for 215, with number 10 Neil Wagner lashing a top score of 72 from 78 balls, after resuming on an unbeaten 55.
Josh Davey, on 28 at the start, made 48 before he was last out. He put on 119 for the ninth wicket with Wagner to pull Somerset around from 96 for eight, after choosing to bat first.
Warwickshire then found themselves in a spot of bother at three for one with Brathwaite’s departure but Rhodes put on 53 for the second wicket with opener Rob Yates (23) and a further 46 for the third wicket with Alex Davies (26), to lead the recovery.
At the Rose Bowl in Southampton, veteran West Indies seamer Kemar Roach snatched three wickets on day one of Surrey’s clash with Hampshire on Tuesday, as the hosts were dismissed for 219.
Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson finished with five for 44 while Ben Brown top-scored with 78 to keep Somerset afloat.
Surrey, who finished day one on 47 for two, were bowled out for 207 on Wednesday, with Sai Sudharsan (73) and Jordan Clark (50 not out) striking fifties.
Batting a second time, Hampshire were one without loss.
