The Guyana Cricket Board has confirmed the squads for Essequibo and Demerara ahead of the senior Inter-County 50-overs-a-side tournament which is set to bowl off on Saturday.
National wicket-keeper/ batsman, Tevin Imlach, will lead the Demerara side for the first time with first-class batsman, Akshaya Persaud serving as his deputy. The star-studded line up features the experienced West Indies Test opener, Tagenarine Chanderpaul along with Chandrapaul Hemraj, Sherfane Rutherford and Matthew Nandu, all of whom featured in the recent Caribbean Premier League. Among the ranks are up and coming Mavindra Dindyal, Steven Sankar, Richie Looknauth, Ronaldo Alimohamed, Devon Lord, Qumar Torrington, Floyd Joseph and Bernard Bailey. At the helm of the team will be national assistant coach, Garvin `Tibbsy’ Nedd. Meanwhile, Essequibo will be skippered by longstanding captain, Antony Adams who will have within his arsenal a core of players who have featured together over the last five years in Kemol Savory, Kevon Boodie, Ronsford Beaton and Ricardo Adams while budding talents, Quentin Sampson, Neiland Cadogan, Garfield Phillips, Jadon Campbell, Sherland Anthony, David Williams, Malcom Hubbard, Wazim Mohamed and Norman Fredericks complete the squad. Missing out on selection but were named as standbys are Ayran Persaud, Shaheed Vieira, Orlando Jailall, Keshun Tracy, Rajendra Ramballi and Joshua Jones.
Demerara will face defending champions, Berbice at Blairmont while Essequibo will go up against Select XI at Georgetown Cricket Club on Saturday from 09.00 hours
