Cougars defeated Hopetown Rangers 3-2 on Wednesday evening in the Berbice Football Association Senior Men’s League at the Rosignol Community Centre ground.
Lomar Reid broke the deadlock in favor of the Cougars in the 16th minute. The lead proved to be short-lived, as Paul Carmichael leveled proceedings in the 17th minute. The aforementioned goals were the only conversions in the first half. However. Reid made his presence felt once more, completing his brace in the 70th minute to restore his side’s marginal advantage at 2-1.
Timothy Sommersell then got into the scoring act, pushing the score to 3-1 as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 78th minute. Hopetown eventually reduced the deficit in the 86th minute via Eqaqanda Small.
Meanwhile, Rosignol United and Paradise Invaders battled to a 2-2 stalemate. A two-goal blitz in the space of five minutes propelled Paradise into initial control of the fixture. Compton Cudjoe found the back of the net in the eighth minute, before Javell Fraser doubled the lead in the 13th minute.
However, a second-half comeback from the home side earned a share of the spoils, following conversions from Royan Rose and Neil Linton. The deficit was reduced in the 55th minute via a strike from Rose, before Linton lashed his effort past the goalkeeper in the 82nd minute to equalize.
