The Guyana Police Force, in its efforts to eradicate the cultivation of marijuana, has destroyed some 500 plants on two acres of land in Region Two.
According to a police press release, a narcotics eradication exercise on September 30th discovered a marijuana farm at Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast with some 500 cannabis plants, ranging from three inches to 12 inches in height.
At the farm too, the police found a makeshift camp with kitchen utensils, dry rations, a pair of long boots, a bottle of kerosene oil, a bag of fertilizer, two hoes, two empty jars and a spray can. No one was found at the camp and samples of the cultivation were taken before both the farm and camp were destroyed by fire, the release said.
The operation was spearheaded by Regional Police Commander for Division 2 Superintendent K Shivbaran.
