Roy’s Extra Quality Products located at Adventure Region Two on Monday received its Made in Guyana Certification mark from the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS). The day was very significant for the Singh’s family as they also opened the modern state-of-the art processing facility and retail and wholesale showroom. The commissioning of the processing facility enables the company to manufacture and deliver over 180 seasonings and spices.
Executive Director of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association Nizam Hassan was present at the momentous occasion. Hassan used the opportunity to congratulate the company for attaining the certification and said that GMSA will continue to work with local manufacturing companies in Guyana. Hassan said that the products are certified which is a clear indication that ‘Roy’s Extra Quality Product’ is committed to adhering to and maintaining quality and standardized products.
Marketing and Sales Manager of Roy’s Extra Quality Products, Govinda Singh said that the company believes in diversification with the aim of sticking to tradition and quality. Singh who inherited the trade from his father Roy Singh said that the certification is a significant milestone for their company.
He said that the business started from a simple favour asked by his father’s overseas friend (Mr Steel) to make five pounds of Garam Masala to take overseas. The friend was impressed by the quality and advised the owner Roy to consider starting a spice processing business. Singh said his father started the business in 1996 with basic tools producing not only garam masala but also geera, curry powder and coriander. Those days he said the labels were handwritten when packaged. Singh said that varieties of spices are on the shelves of supermarkets, grocery shops nationwide as well as in the Caribbean Islands and Canada.
Singh said that customers can expect unique recipes which are specially made from pure and natural spices.
“We are dedicated in preserving the freshness, aroma and taste of our products and this is reflected in our packaging, we have been on the journey of innovation moving from low-density polyethylene bags (LDPE) to Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bags’ Singh said.
Currently, the company offers an extensive portfolio of 180 different products, ranging from masala mixes and seasoning blends to single spices, herbs, food colour, and flavoured salts. The company is focusing on introducing an additional 68 products with the goal of offering every single spice from A to Z.
Roy’s Extra Quality Products has been a proud member of the business community for over 27 years. Roy’s Extra Quality Products has grown to become a leading manufacturer of ground spices and seasoning mixes, boasting a diverse catalog of over 180 unique products.
“Every product that bears the Roy’s name is fully approved by the Government Analyst Food and Drug Department (GAFDD)” Singh said. Roy is a family legacy that is managed by a dedicated team Mr. Roy as the General Manager, Devkumar Singh as the Production Manager, Haymant Singh as the Procurement Specialist, Mrs. Leelawattie Singh handles Finance, Accounting, and Quality Assurance, and Mr. Govindra Singh overseas Marketing and Sales. The company currently employs ten persons. Singh said that the company is happy to gain the Made in Guyana Certification.
The Made in Guyana Certificate was handed over by GNBS Technical Officer, Mr. Latchman Mootoosammi to the Marketing & Sales Manager of Roy’s Extra Quality Products, Mr. Govinda Singh in the presence of Regional Democratic Council Chairperson, Ms. Vilma De Silva, GNBS Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Llyod David, General Manager of Roy’s Extra Spices, Mr. Lakiraj Singh, GMSA Executive Director, Mr. Nizam Hassan, among others. The Made in Guyana Standards mark is a registered mark that aims to provide recognition to locally manufactured products on the local and international markets and is a signature of quality for authentic Guyanese products.
