The Guyana Police Force says that two brothers who murdered a 29-year-old miner, Manuel Francis called ‘Sammy’ of Princeville Village, Potaro, Region Eight on September, 28th are in custody.
The murder stemmed from offensive remarks made between Francis and one of the two brothers.
Investigations have revealed that Francis and the two brothers, who were known to each other, were at the Princeville Amerindian Heritage Day celebration. According to the police report, at about 16:00, Francis went to a kitchen to get some piwari, when one of the suspects said to him, “this is not no long boot thing”. Francis became offended and in return used abusive language towards the suspect. The said suspect then pushed Francis to the ground. Francis then pulled a knife from his waist and swung it in the direction of the suspect leaving him with injuries to the left ear.
According to Senior Village Councillor, Zilda David, who saw the commotion, she immediately pulled Francis away and told both to stop. David then took Francis back to her camp at which point the suspect approached from behind, and with a piece of wood, struck Francis three times in the head and once to the left shoulder.
Francis fell to the ground and when he stood up, the second brother, who was sitting close to where Francis fell, stabbed him in the left side of his ribs. The suspects then escaped but were later arrested.
