To cope with unprecedented demand, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) last night announced that as a temporary measure it will be disconnecting large self-generating customers during the period of 6 pm to 10 pm.
A notice from GPL said that in order to prevent widespread disruptions, it had contacted large industrial customers with self-generation capacity and asked that they self-generate during the peak demand hours from 6 pm to 10 pm.
“Regrettably, only a small percentage of these customers responded positively. This partial response has necessitated the need for GPL to proceed to remove these customers from the grid between 1800 hrs and 2200 hrs daily. This is a temporary but necessary measure for the company to prevent service disruptions”, GPL said.
