Police are seeking legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) into the shooting of a Corentyne woman, Ashmin Mahadeo on Sunday morning.
Mahadeo, 30, was shot in her neck and remains in critical condition.
Investigators had held her fiancé, Neil Madramootoo, an engineer in Region Six, for questioning in relation to the shooting. A police report stated that during a search at Mahadeo’s home, they found one handgun, a magazine, and three live rounds. A file was subsequently prepared and sent to the DPP for legal advice on the way forward.
Meanwhile, Madramootoo was released on station bail of $300, 000 yesterday as 72 hours had elapsed since he was held, Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus informed yesterday.
Mahadeo’s relatives stated on Tuesday, that the doctors informed them that she is currently paralyzed and will likely not be able to speak. The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m.
According to information gathered, Mahadeo and her fiancé, who have been together for the last seven years were packing items into a vehicle which the fiancé was using as they had a bridal shower planned for the day.
The woman’s brother, Naresh Mahadeo, 32, said that they were asleep in the house when they heard a loud explosion. “When I came out my bed and I come by the door I see my sister lay down by the gate and blood coming through her mouth and I rushed and go out and my wife turn her over and I run out on the street and when I ask he [the fiancé], he said somebody shot her and he go in the house.”
Mahadeo’s wife, a nurse, began doing CPR so as to assist the injured woman in breathing. According to the brother, after he did not see anyone on the street, he also returned to offer assistance to his sister.
