Rising Stars and Beacons recorded identical wins to advance to the semi-final round when the ‘Rats’ Memorial Football Championship commenced on Tuesday evening at the Bartica Community Center ground.
The Rising Stars unit downed Lazio 2-0. Eon Gomes opened the scoring in the 10th minute, while an own goal in the 42nd minute added to the score.
Likewise, the Beacons outfit defeated the Wolves 2-0. Ronaldo Parris and Shameer Mentore found the back of the net in the 36th and 70th minute, respectively.
The winner of the tournament will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy, while the second and third-place finishers will receive $200,000 and $100,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade. The event continues today at the same venue with another doubleheader.
