Two persons have been fined by the courts for breaching prohibition notices by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
According to an advertisement in Wednesday’s Guyana Chronicle, Radesh Williams was ordered to pay a $300,000 fine on April 6th for failing to comply with the EPA’s directions to abate noise and dust pollution. He appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court,
At the Whim Magistrate’s Court, on July 10, 2023, the advertisement said Marlon Khadoo was ordered to pay a fine of $300,000 for breach of the EPA’s Prohibition Notice. It did not specify his transgression.
“The EPA, had on numerous occasions, informed the polluters to conduct their operations in a manner that does not pose a serious threat to the environment or human health. When the EPA’s collaborative efforts including, meetings, visits and warning letters failed to motivate voluntary compliance, the offenders were each issued a Prohibition Notice under section 27 of the Environmental Protection Act Cap 20:05,” the notice said.
