Our neighbours, not us, at least have something to look forward to

Dear Editor,

The Finance Minister of neighbouring Trinidad recently presented that country’s 2024 Budget. Among the many highlights and of note was a back pay by Christmas to public servants. Included also in the presentation was a lump sum to retirees’ – tax exempt.  It was felt this category of citizens was deserving of this consideration.

On this side what can the people expect?  $5B was set aside in this year’s budget for assistance (I believed that was the term).  The last notification on the status of this sum, as I recall was, it was not utilised.  So the question remains will it be utilised, if no why not? If it will be utilised, when and for what purpose?

Our neighbours have something to look forward to, here, we wait and hope, wait and hope as we trudge along.

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
