Hope leads star-studded Pride for cup campaign

West Indies ODI captain Shai Hope

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – West Indies one-day captain Shai Hope has been predictably named to lead a star-studded Barbados Pride unit for their Super50 Cup campaign starting later this month in Trinidad and Tobago.

The 14-man squad includes Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, a former captain Shamarh Brooks, along with West Indies stars Roston Chase, Kyle Mayers, Raymon Reifer, Dominic Drakes, Akeem Jordan and Jomel Warrican.

Hope, appointed One-Day International skipper last February, is the region’s leading white-ball batsman and is ranked number 12 in the ICC World rankings.

He averages nearly 49 from 153 List A games and 50 from 118 ODIs, inclusive of 15 hundreds.

The stylish right-hander was the leading scorer in the Caribbean Premier League which concluded last month, dominating the region’s premier Twenty20 league with 481 runs at an average of 51.

Pride open their account against title-holders Jamaica Scorpions on October 20 at UWI’s Sport and Physical Education Centre at St Augustine, in an eight-team group format which will see each team facing the other once.

The top four teams qualify for the semi-finals on November 8 and 9.

Last year, Pride reached the semi-finals where they were knocked out by losing finalists Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.
