Defending champions and undefeated outfit Slingerz FC crushed Belle West 9-0 when the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued yesterday at the Tuschen ground.
The victory continued a trend for the Vergenoegen-based outfit, which has a perfect record in the league and is yet to be tested. The contest was effectively over once again by the halftime interval, as they romped to a 7-0 lead.
Delon Lanferman, the eventual scorer of a helmet trick, recorded three of his conversions in the first half. However, the rout was started by Lennox Younge, the scorer of an eventual brace.
Younge blasted into the back of the net in the fourth minute to open the floodgates, which was followed by a Lanferman strike into the far corner in the 24th minute.
Lanferman made his presence felt once more in the 26th minute to seal his brace, before a Deon Alfred left-footed strike into the lower left corner in the 29th minute made it 4-0. Not to be outdone, Younge also completed his double four minutes later to extend their advantage to 5-0.
This was followed by Lanferman who netted in the 39th minute to seal a deserved hat-trick. The final conversion of the period occurred off the boot of defensive midfielder Clive Nobrega in the 41st minute.
Upon the resumption of play, Alfred made his presence felt once more, rifling into the roof of the net in the 50th minute to complete his haul. The result was then sealed in the 65th minute via a Lanferman strike, which completed his helmet trick.
Meanwhile, Uprising gained a walkover from Wales in the earlier fixture.
