Upper Demerara and East Coast Demerara recorded lopsided wins when the 2023 edition of the Thunderbolt Flour Power Under-17 Academy Football Championship commenced yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence, with a doubleheader.
East Coast Demerara thrashed East Bank Demerara 4-1. The quartet of Isaiah Alphonso, Kobe Benjamin, Bryan Wharton and Travis Williams found the back of the net in the 28th, 42nd, 48th, and 71st minutes, respectively. On target in the loss was Ian Daniels in the 11th minute.
Upper Demerara then crushed West Demerara by the identical 4-1 score as Keishan Leacock bagged a second-half brace in the 70th and 85th minutes while Kamar MacLaren and Kymani Sealey scored in the 36th and 61st minute respectively. For the loser, Shakeel King scored in the 53rd minute.
