Transport Sports Club secured a six-wicket win over Police Sports Club in a high-scoring final of the Georgetown Cricket Association Atlantic Marine Supplies Inc., Suzuki Motorcycles second-division tournament on Saturday.
At the Demerara Cricket Club, Transport won the toss and inserted Police who posted an imposing 195 for seven in their allotted overs. The eventual champions then reached 196 for four with six balls to spare.
Transport’s chase was off to a flyer after Adrian Hinds’ 26-ball blitz. The former national youth player smashed six sixes and five fours on his way to a top score of 60.
Hinds added 76 for the first wicket with Myhiem Khan who made 17 before being bowled by Trevor Benn.
This brought Alvin Mohabir to the crease and the former youth skipper steered the chase with a 35-ball 59. Mohabir’s innings was laced with eight fours and two sixes. After losing Emmanuel Lewis for five, Mohabir partnered with Riyad Latiff to put on 86 for the fourth wicket.
Latif ended on 34 not out from 29 balls with his innings featuring two fours and two sixes. Police did not help their cause as they gifted 19 extras.
Earlier, Police were able to reach their towering total on the back of Andrew Lyght Jr., who made 81 from 42 balls. Lyght clubbed a dozen boundaries including two sixes despite losing his opening partner Benn for a first ball duck.
However, he went on to share in a 65-run union with Lennox Andrews (29) for the second wicket and a 71-run stand for the fourth wicket with Kyle Michael (28). Pernell London chipped in with a 22-run cameo but it was Akeem Redman who kept Transport’s bowling in the race with 4-22.
