The Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/KFC Elite League Cup, which will commence on Sunday, was officially launched yesterday at the latter’s Vlissingen Road headquarters, with the competing 10 teams battling for more than $3,000,000 in prizes.
This was confirmed by an official release from the GFF.
The event, which will last for six weeks, will feature an initial group stage comprising two groups of five.
Group A contains Guyana Defence Force, Santos, Buxton United, Fruta Conquerors, and Milerock. On the other hand, Group B consists of the Western Tigers, Guyana Police Force, Den Amstel, Victoria Kings, and Ann’s Grove.
The eventual winner will receive $1,500,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will collect $1,000,000, $500,000, and $250,000, respectively.
Victoria Kings will battle Ann’s Grove in the opening match at 18:00hrs, while the Guyana Police Force will take aim at Den Amstel at 20:00hrs. The matches will be staged at the Eve Leary Ground.
GFF President Wayne Forde said, “The KFC League Cup will provide our loyal fans with a bonanza of exciting and entertaining matches over the next few weeks. The Elite League team is eager to get back to the pitch, and they have been putting in the hard work in preparation for this tournament.”
President Forde further thanked “the management of KFC Guyana for once again giving our best young talents a chance to express themselves on a national stage. While I am confident that we will most definitely witness a few upsets and surprises, I would like to take this opportunity to wish the teams every success.”
Meanwhile, KFC Guyana Marketing Manager Pamella Manasseh said, “KFC remains fully committed to bolstering the growth and advancement of football in Guyana.
