The body of Romeil Delgado, a one-year-old toddler of Paruima Village, Upper Mazaruni Village, Region Seven was recovered from the Kamarang River at ‘Top Side’ Paruima falls on Wednesday night.
The toddler was reported missing on Wednesday around 6 pm during a family outing at the ‘Top Side’ Paruima falls and his body was pulled out of the Kamarang River around 11.50 pm the same day by a 51-year-old farmer and members of the Paruima Community Policing Group.
The toddler’s body was examined by a nurse, and no mark of violence was observed.
According to the toddler’s 21-year-old mother, Yasmin Delgado, at about 13:40 hours on Wednesday, she and her 22-year-old boyfriend, as well as her 26-year-old brother, went to the Kamarang River to bathe along with five small children, including Romeil Delgado.
Whilst there, Yasmin left the toddler lying on the sand at the river’s edge under the supervision of her brother while she went to check on her two-year-old daughter, who was sleeping in a hammock about 50 feet away. Yasmin returned to the riverside about five minutes later to check on her son and discovered that he was missing from the landing.
