Truck drivers at Sinohydro Corporation Limited went on a brief strike yesterday over a delay by the company in the payment of wages.
The Ministry of Labour said that its attention was drawn through social media to the strike action by some truck drivers employed by Sinohydro Corporation Limited of China.
The Ministry in a release said that it immediately made contact with the company and invited the workers to a meeting to better understand the situation to address the grievances.
The Chief Labour Officer, Dhaneshwar Deonarine and the team met with the Human Resource Manager, Ruth Mc Taire and Shania Braithwaite, Senior Human Resource Officer, of Sinohydo Corpora-tion Ltd. at 12:30 pm yesterday at the Ministry of Labour, Brickdam, George-town.
At that meeting, the release said that Sinohydro indicated that the main reason for the strike was delayed payment of wages/salaries which was due on October 6, 2023. The company assured the Ministry that the workers were paid at 11:00 am yesterday and they had agreed to return to work with full resumption after their lunch break.
The Ministry pointed out that at this time there are no unresolved complaints from any worker of the company.
