From Monday, the processing time for passports will again be five days.
A statement yesterday from the Ministry of Home Affairs said that for some time, the Central Immigration and Passport Office had been experiencing a backlog in relation to passports, resulting in applicants experiencing delays in uplifting them.
However, as part of President Irfaan Ali’s initiative, the issue has been addressed and steps have been taken to return to the standard passport processing time, the statement said.
Commencing from Monday, October 16th, 2023, the standard processing time of five working days is back in effect, the ministry said. This means that applicants can expect to receive their passports in the standard processing time of five working days for first-time applications and renewals at a cost of $6,000 and within seventy-two hours for the expedited service at an additional cost of $20,000.
This coincides with the passport issuance exercise which will begin today at the Central Immigration and Passport Office and the Regional Passport Offices.
