President Ali has promised that the 5,000 passport backlog will be cleared within one week. Kudos to him but we didn’t have to be in this position in the first place. Why does Guyana not issue adult passports with 10 year expiration as is done in the majority of countries worldwide? See details here: https://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Passport_validity making this move will cut the number of renewals to process by at least 45%, assuming that those persons under 18 might still have passports with 5 year expiration periods. If money is the issue, make it optional and charge more. I’m sure the majority of citizens will opt to pay the price than deal with the manual forms, unnecessary travel, lines, outdated building, and delays to uplift, etc.
