A Williamsburg, Corentyne businessman was killed last night in his home during the course of a robbery.
Dead is Akbhar Sain, 59, the owner of the Sain Supermarket.
Stabroek News was told this morning that a suspect was caught and is in police custody.
Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus said that the suspect has confessed to the robbery.
According to Bacchus, after arriving at the scene, the suspect was cornered in the victim’s house and was eventually arrested. However, during the arrest he was shot once in his right arm and is currently receiving medical attention at the Port Mourant Hospital.
Bacchus this morning said that the suspect in his confession said that he broke into the premises and a scuffle ensued with the owner during which he took a piece of wood and dealt the man a lash in his head resulting in him falling to the ground.
Sain’s body was discovered outside of the building by police after residents reported a suspected break and enter.
