West Indies all-rounder, Kevin Sinclair churned out a match-defining performance as Guyana Harpy Eagles opened their Regional Super50 campaign with a 10-wicket win over Windward Islands Volcanoes on Tuesday.
On the heels of his success, Sinclair credited his hard work as finally paying off.
Speaking to the media, the 23-year-old said, “I just looked to contribute with the bat and the ball today and my hard work paid off. To put in this performance for my team is always special and I love representing Guyana so to put out this performance and we win is something special.”
Sinclair came just shy of his career-best in List A cricket with 41 from 48 balls.
“I’ve been batting well recently so I would just look to continue in that form but coming into that pressure situation I just looked to knock it around a bit, pick off the bad balls and lucky I got off and put my team in a better position,” he said after sharing a half-century partnership with Gudakesh Motie late in the innings.
Sinclair returned to pick up 2-42 with his off-spin including the big wicket of Alick Athanaze that turned the match around as Athanze had scored 75. On that wicket, Sinclair reasoned, “He got off to a flyer today, he played really good cricket shots but getting him, it’s a prized wicket and getting the breakthrough for my captain is something I always do so I did that today.”
Despite his individual performance, Sinclair noted, “We have a strong unit, we look to back each other on and off the field, for me once you bat, bowl and field well you will win this tournament so it’s just taking it one step at a time, game by game, ball by ball and we will push to take the title.”
