The people around us and the relationships we build with them shape each day of our lives. There are people who guide us and help us through our struggles even if it takes away their own time or energy. There are also people who may aid us in some way without intending to, for example, through a simple conversation or even a smile. Then, there are those who intentionally or unintentionally become an obstacle to our development.
As children, we were likely surrounded by other children who were going through the process of growth just like we were. Hence, it was natural to meet some who may not have been at their best behaviour. We learned that bullies or those who bothered us could be reported to a teacher or to our parents.
However, when we enter adulthood, we may be surprised to find that we still continue to encounter people who do not reciprocate kindness or courtesy. When we do so, we will not always know how to respond immediately.
