A brilliant all-round display from Thaddeus Lovell helped secure a 90-run win for Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) over Ace Warriors on Saturday in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s New Building Society’s second division 40-over tournament.
GCC, playing at home in sunny conditions, won the toss and opted to bat scoring 222 for eight from their allotted 40 overs despite the absence of Mavindra Dindyal who has been barred from playing second-division cricket. Ace Warriors responded with 132 all out in 24 overs.
GCC’s innings was constructed by a 68-run opening partnership between captain, Ryan Hemraj (31) and Shahid Vieira (22). A few quick strikes from Ace Warriors removed Zachary Jodah (11) and Rivaldo Phillips (14) but the day belonged to Lovell who smashed three sixes and eight fours during his 36-ball 64.
Lovell got support from Dhanesh Persaud who was left unbeaten on 28 at the end of the innings. GCC’s innings was further complemented with 39 extras as Roger Aarons picked up 3-43 and Diquan Murray collecting 2-12.
The chase was curtailed by Lovell, who returned with ball in hand to bag 5-24. Persaud also got among the wickets, taking 3-21.
Rawle Enmore top scored with 33, striking three fours and two sixes before being trapped leg before wicket by Persaud. Lawrence Pellew chipped in with 20. He struck a quartet of boundaries but his innings came to an end when he was bowled by Lovell. Devendra Lall ran out of partners on 18 not out while Junior Phillips made 17.
