A 27-year-old security guard was arrested yesterday for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and three .32 spent shells at a shop located at 58 Mile Village, Upper Demerara River, Region Ten.
At about 10 am yesterday, police ranks acting on information received, went to the shop and saw Clifton Braithwaite placing a suspected black and silver firearm into the filter section of a septic tank.
According to a Guyana Police Force release, one of the ranks immediately retrieved the firearm and next to it, he found three .32 spent shells. The firearm was examined and was found to be a .32 Taurus pistol without any serial number.
The firearm was shown to Braithwaite and he was told of the offence committed and cautioned. He admitted ownership of the firearm and claimed that he got it from a friend in Mahdia. He was subsequently arrested and escorted to Mabura Police Outpost, where he was placed into custody, pending charges.
