The Ministry of Labour yesterday opened its twelfth sub-office – this time at Better Hope, on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), Region Four.
The office, which is valued at $8.4 million, will house officers from the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA), and the Co-operatives and Friendly Societies, Labour, and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) department.
During his address, Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton said “This office is a testament to what we have set out to do, guided by three pillars in a re-established ministry: one, the training and retraining of people, two, the development aspect of making life more comfortable for people, and three, of course, the protection of the rights of workers”.
He stressed, too, that the office must serve those persons who reside on the East Coast, a release from the Ministry of Labour said.
“It is about giving service. That is what… we were assigned to do, whether minister, department, technical officer or otherwise. Our role is to give service. That is what the Guyanese people expect,” the minister stated.
The release said that the Ministry currently has offices in Port Kaituma in Region One, Anna Regina in Region Two, Pouderoyen in Region Three, Mahaicony and Fort Wellington in Region Five, New Amsterdam and Corentyne in Region Six, Bartica in Region Seven, Lethem in Region Nine, and Linden in Region Ten.
