The CARICOM Secretary-General on Wednesday announced the appointment of Elizabeth Solomon, a national of Trinidad and Tobago, as Assistant Secretary-General, Foreign and Community Relations, with effect from 15 October 2023.
A release from CARICOM said that Solomon has more than thirty years of legal, communications and foreign service experience, at both regional and international levels.
She has served in senior levels in the United Nations system, covering complex conflict recovery, governance and foreign relations issues, including in the Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General’s Good Offices Mission in Cyprus and the Office of the Resident Coordinator, Sierra Leone, the release said.
Dr. Carla Barnett, CARICOM Secretary-General, noted that Solomon’s appointment comes at a critical time for the Community.
“The current global realities require a robust and strategic approach to coordination of foreign and community relations, to promote our shared interests. We look forward to the benefit of ASG Solomon’s extensive experience to advance the work of the Secretariat and the Community”, she said.
A certified Mediator and Arbitrator, Solomon served as Judge at the Industrial Court of Trinidad and Tobago, prior to taking up the appointment.
