Frank Thomas, a 36-year-old gold miner of Lot 12 Middle Walk, Anns Grove, East Coast Demerara has been charged with the murder of Jamal Fields at Powis Landing, North West District.
Thomas appeared at Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court via zoom before Magistrate Dylon Bess where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison until November 8th for statements to be filed.
On October 8th Thomas allegedly stabbed and killed Fields during an argument at Powis Landing, North West District. Region One Police Commander, Himnauth Sawh, had told Stabroek News that the body of Fields was found with a stab wound to the left side of his chest at Powis Landing.
A video seen by this newspaper showed Fields lying in a pool of blood gasping for breath. A group of people had gathered but Fields was left to die. According to Sawh, ranks who were dispatched to the area went in search of a suspect. The suspect was arrested and stated that he was involved in a heated argument with Fields.
