Flying Stars Cycle Club has announced that World Masters Sprint Champion James Joelyn Joseph will compete in tomorrow’s ‘Duckie’ Memorial event, which gets off to a flying start at 13:30hrs around the circuit of the J.B. Singh Road (opposite the GDF playground).
The second edition of the annual fixture is once again organised by Victor Rutherford, a former national rider and founder of the Flying Stars Cycle Club. The event is geared towards honouring the legacy of the sport’s stalwart, the late Randolph ‘Duckie’ Singh.
Rutherford said Joseph contacted him with respect to his availability this year after scheduling issues caused him to be absent last year. Joseph and Rutherford have a long relationship, starting back in Linden with Guinea and then with the national team.
Rutherford said he was pleased that Joseph would be on the saddle since he possesses a wealth of knowledge and the younger cyclist can learn so much from him. Also among the overseas cyclists expected in Guyana is former national champion Bruce Camacho, who resides in Canada. Lucrative prizes will be up for grabs.
