Guyana will be hosting the 2024 Caribbean Cycling Championships, a first for the country. This revelation was made by Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) President, Horace Burrowes yesterday morning.
Burrowes was at the time, delivering remarks at the launch of Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycling Club’s (KARCC) ‘Fireworks 2’ event.
“It’s an honor to have that passed on to us. We did not have intentions of hosting but the offer was put out there and we seized the opportunity. We have accepted the challenge”.
Burrowes, who was attending the 2023 Elite Caribbean Road Cycling Championships in Guadeloupe along with cyclist Briton John, attended a Caribbean Cycling Union meeting with other Caribbean territory association heads when the topic arose.
The GCF head is now taking steps to secure the requisite sponsorship and support needed to pull off the event. “We are pleading with corporate Guyana and the government as we need the support to make our hosting the best experience that we can possibly afford to our guests and visitors”.
Dates for the 2024 edition of the Caribbean Cycling Championships will be announced in the near future. Previously, Guyana was a prospective host but due to unknown circumstances, the hosting of the championships never materialized.
