Create a small temporary cabinet subcommittee on the Venezuelan threat

Dear Editor,

Even at this distance, it seems to me that Venezuela is probably serious this time round about annexing Essequibo. It is the modern way of ‘statesmanship’ – think Ukraine and Gaza. The oil riches are just too attractive to Maduro and his nation in distress. Any military battle will be very brief.

It looks to me that this may be a national emergency in the making. Rather than a one off ‘drop in/shake your hand’ meeting with the opposition, why does President Ali not create a temporary small Cabinet subcommittee on the threat of all the parties which meets at least weekly and reports at least weekly to the whole Cabinet? Forewarned is forearmed. Not a blade of grass indeed!

Sincerely,
John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
