Malteenoes Sports Club, Everest Cricket Club and the Georgetown Cricket Club teams all notched up wins in the Pepsi-sponsored Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) first-division 50-overs competition last weekend.
Everest crush Transport
On Saturday, Everest hosted Transport Sports Club and emphatically thrashed the Thomas Lands club by 148 runs.
Batting first Everest’s total of 364 was powered by a blitzkrieg of a century from all-rounder Clinton Pestano who made 157 from just 76 deliveries with 12 fours and 14 maximums. He was well supported by Richie Looknauth’s 55 as their side’s total proved to be too much for Transport.
In reply, Transport did well to manage 216 all out after spinners Junior Sinclair (4/36) and Javeed Rasheed (3/10) ripped out the backbone of their batting lineup. Top scoring for the losers was Akeem Redman who offered some resistance during his 50 while Charwayne McPherson (40) and Shiloh Adams (37) played cameos.
GCC triumphs over rivals DCC
On the same day, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) hosted rivals the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and contrived to lose by eight wickets in a reduced overs affair at their home ground. The 50-over match had to be reduced to 32 overs-a-side with late pitch preparations the culprit.
DCC batted first and were bundled out for 179 off of their allotted 32-overs. Opener Raymond Perez was the only mainstay for the hosts, ending unbeaten on 82. The next best effort came from the bat of Sachin Singh who made 23. Leading the way with the ball for GCC was Carlos La Rose (3/37), Ronaldo Ali Mohamed (2/37) and Devon Lord (3/10).
GCC’s talented young opener Mavendra Dindiyal then notched up 111 runs while Aryan Persaud made an even 50, the duo featuring in a record 173-run partnership, powering their side home with eight wickets to spare.
Easy like Sunday morning at Malteenoes
On Sunday, Malteenoes brushed aside the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) winning by 287 runs after senior statesman Marcus Watkins treated his home crowd to an entertaining unbeaten century. Watkins made 121 from 79 deliveries with 13 fours and five maximums, his innings the pillar of Malteenoes’ 374/6. In addition to Watkins’ century, Shemroy Barrington (67), Nichosie Barker (37), Collis Rimple (47) and Trenton McAllister (35) all contributed to their side’s hefty total.
Left with a mammoth target to chase, GNIC’s innings never got off the ground and they folded for just 87 runs, Trevon Frank and Delon Dalrymple leading the way with the ball for Malteenoes.
