Sophia, Festival City, Airy Hall, and Stewartville recorded wins when the Hamilton Green Football Cup commenced Sunday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
All four matches were decided via the penalty shoot-out route. Sophia defeated Mahaica 3-2 on sudden death penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1. Similarly, Festival City downed Vengy 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks after normal time ended 1-1.
Likewise, Airy Hall defeated Herstelling 3-2 on sudden penalty kicks, following a 1-1 score at the end of regulation time. Also, Stewartville squeaked past Soesdyke 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks after normal time ended scoreless.
The event continues today at the same venue with another round of elimination matches. The prizes for the top four finishers are: $500,000, $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000.
