Vishnu Mungal, a 75-year-old man was arrested on Monday and charged today with the offence of Obtaining Money by False Pretence, Contrary to Section 194 of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
Mungal, who is from Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara, is accused of committing the act on 48-year-old Karan Singh on 2nd March, 2023. He allegedly collected $14,040,000.
The accused appeared today at the Golden Grove Magistrate Court #1 before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce where the charge was read to him and he pleaded not guilty.
The complainant Singh, then said he would like to come to an agreement with the accused, stating that he would like to give him until the 14th November, 2023 to have the money repaid.
Mungal’s passport was lodged and he was placed on $100,000 cash bail.
The matter was adjourned to 17th November, 2023.
