Following their recent success in the ongoing Concacaf Nations League the Golden Jaguars have climbed to the 160th position following the official publication of the October FIFA Men’s Rankings Table.
The team has improved five places and moved to 1009.62 points from its previous September rank of 165th and 994.45 points, which constitutes an increase of 15.17. In the July ranking chart, Guyana was seeded 168th.
Since their 0-2 defeat to Ethiopia on August 2nd in an international friendly, the Golden Jaguars have recorded four wins in as many competitive encounters. The Guyanese defeated Antigua and Barbuda [5-1], the Bahamas [3-2], and Puerto Rico [3-1, 3-1] in League ‘B’ of the ongoing Concacaf Nations League.
They are currently sandwiched between 159th-ranked Andorra and 161st-placed Maldives. The Golden Jaguar’s best ever ranking was 86th, achieved in 2010, while their worst position was 185th in 2004. Overall, Guyana’s average ranking has been 151st.
The FIFA Men’s World Ranking, which was introduced in 1992, is a mechanism that was created to rank the competing nations in association football. As of April, Argentina is the number-ranked nation. The teams are ranked based on their respective game results in full FIFA-recognised international matches. Eight countries, notably Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain, have held the top spot.
Since August 2018, the ranking system has adopted the Elo rating structure, which is used in chess and is based on the strengths of the competing parties.
