Police have arrested a Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara man in connection with an incident where two Venezuelan nationals were made to strip naked, and walk the road after being accused of being thieves.
The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old, Ahmad Ally. In a video online, Ally is suspected of being the voice in the video commanding a man and woman, who are Venezuelan to strip.
Ally allegedly commanded the two persons to say they were thieves and to strip. When this was done, he allegedly had them walk the street without any clothing.
In a report, the police informed that they have arrested Ally and he is currently in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation into the video.
Ally allegedly turned himself in at about 13.30 hours yesterday at the Providence Police Station, accompanied by his lawyer and was later arrested and escorted to the Golden Grove Police Station, where he was video-interviewed in the presence of his lawyer.
According to the police, he allegedly admitted during the interview that he indeed had a cutlass in his hand and did instruct the victims to say that they were thieves and ordered them to take off all their clothing and walk naked down the street.
Ally also claimed that he never assaulted the victims, nor was he aware of who made the video.
However, he was confronted by the complainants who maintained he made the video with a red phone. Ali did have a red phone on his person, which was checked, but no video of the incident was stored in it. The phone was lodged and will be sent to CID headquarters to check for deleted videos, meanwhile the suspect remains in custody.
