The 16th edition of the Machinery Corporation of Guyana Ltd. (MACORP) Golf Championship was officially launched yesterday at the entity’s Providence, East Bank Demerara headquarters.
The event, which is pencilled to commence on Saturday and forms part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebration, will be staged at the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC), East Coast Demerara.
MACORP’s General Manager, German Consuegra, stated during brief remarks that the company is committed to the development of the sport and its fraternity, noting that they will continue to assist and provide support towards the establishment.
Meanwhile, LGC President Pantanjille Persaud stated that the company has played a vital role in the infrastructural development of the facility, noting that the two entities share a symbiotic relationship that has only gotten stronger.
According to Persaud, golf is growing in popularity amongst the populace, and LGC has inquired from the government about the possibility of increasing the size of the course via additional land, which forms part of the entity’s developmental agenda. He further stated that a quality field is expected for the tournament, which has evolved into one of the marquee events on the LGC calendar.
