At a simple ceremony yesterday, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and architectural firm SRKN unveiled the blueprint and final design for the federation’s National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Speaking to the gathering, GFF President Wayne Forde hailed the unveiling as a “fulfilment of a commitment we made to the members of the GFF back in 2015. After an extensive and comprehensive design and engineering undertaking, we now have a well-thought-out facility that has been accepted and approved by FIFA. We will now enter a new phase of intensive construction activities to complete this project over the next three years”.

Forde was also quick to point out that the long-sought goal of establishing a cutting-edge football facility in Guyana is possible due to the “unwavering commitment of all our valued partners, including FIFA and Concacaf”.

Also present at the reveal ceremony were GFF’s First Vice President Brigadier General (Ret) Bruce Lovell, representatives of the federation’s regional associations, and Triston Gomes of SRKN Architectural Company, amongst others.

Lovell noted that national and youth teams are already using the NTC for training sessions and competitions, adding that the overarching goal is to eventually host international matches that will allow fans to witness the talent of our national teams.

In early October, President Forde and Second Vice President Rawlston Adams conducted an on-site assessment of the FIFA-approved floodlight installation project at the NTC.

The lighting contract was awarded to Musco Sport Lighting, a United States-based company, which has enlisted the services of Cummings Electrical, a local partner, for specific aspects of the project. The floodlights are expected to be fully operational by early December.
