Labour Ministry still probing Tepui, InFab workplace fatalities

The Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health Department (OSH) is still investigating two workplace fatalities at Tepui Group and Industrial Fabrications Incorporated (InFab Inc)

Seventeen-year-old Javid Shaw was a junior site worker of InFab. In September, Shaw was at the InFab site (HD Studio) at Lama Avenue, Bel Air Park, when he fell from the third or fourth floor of a five-storey building while descending to uplift painting supplies on the ground floor and died.  

In October, 34 year-old Shawn Joseph, a crane operator from Number 76 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was crushed to death by a heavy-duty machine moments after he jumped from it as it toppled while planting piles at a construction site of a shore base facility at Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton explained that Tepui Group has been cooperating with the ministry as the investigation is ongoing.

According to the Ministry of Labour OSH Department, investigations into the two deaths are ongoing.
