An East Canje, Berbice teenager who was wanted in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Shawn Persaud of Betsy Ground, East Canje on Saturday evening has been arrested by police in Region Six.
Persaud was killed just around 7 pm at Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice.
Investigations revealed that another 17-year-old, known as ‘Lion’, stabbed Persaud. A villager told investigators that he heard shouts that Persaud had been stabbed and ran to the cross street in Adelphi Village, where he joined a crowd that had gathered and saw Persaud lying on the ground.
Persaud was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty, the police said.
According to information gathered by this newspaper, Persaud and ‘Lion’ were at a location just over the Adelphi Bridge when an argument ensued during which he was stabbed and the suspect fled the scene.
Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus has since confirmed that the suspect was arrested and placed in custody for questioning. Investigations are continuing.
