Man-made island shore base receives first vessel

This week, the Vreed-en-Hoop Shorebase Inc (VEHSI) saw the docking and offloading of the first commercial vessel at its man-made island facility, a release from the company said yesterday.

The M.V. Virtuous Striker became the first commercial vessel to dock at the newly constructed man-made island and at the same time was registered as the longest vessel, at over 190 meters, to ever enter the Demerara River Channel, the release said. Additionally, with a cargo of over 26,900 metric tonnes it was also one of the largest payloads to ever be offloaded.
