Dear Editor,
One has to hope that diplomacy and world pressure succeeds in keeping Maduro, his land grab and his December 3 referendum firmly at bay. The military balance between the countries is seriously frightening.
Personnel:
Guyana – 4,600 plus 3,000 reservists
Venezuela – 515,000:130,000 in the front line
Tanks:
Guyana – 89 ‘Armoured vehicles’
Venezuela – 696 Combat tanks
Aircraft:
Guyana – 8 planes and 2 helicopters
Venezuela – 280 aircraft including 42 fighter jets
Ministers Todd and Persaud need to beef up their troops and work the world of diplomacy very hard to make Maduro isolated and to think again.
Sincerely,
John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
