Dear Editor,
The situation in the Gaza is getting from bad to worse. It is indeed painful to watch the daily slaughter of men, women and children by Israeli forces which seem determined to destroy the Hamas which it blamed for the October 7 incursion into Israeli territory and which resulted in the deaths of over one thousand Israelis and the holding of over two hundred hostages. The international community, in particular the United States, need to take immediate measures to bring an end to the senseless killings that are taking place on a daily basis.
It seems that there is currently no safe place in Palestine. Hospitals, schools and UN-designated refugee camps are being attacked by the Israeli military. Protest actions involving millions of people around the world are taking place in solidarity with the Palestinian people and calling for an immediate ceasefire but the slaughter and destruction continues unabated. It is time for the pain and cries of the Palestinian people be heard and tangible measures put in place to bring about a peaceful resolution to the decades-old Palestinian issue within the framework of a two-state solution as provided for by the United Nations.
This is the only way forward for both Palestine and Israel. The issue cannot be settled through military means as Israel is attempting to do. It will only lead to a new spiral of deaths and destruction. The time is long overdue for a diplomatic solution to the problem involving all stakeholders which must include the Palestinian people through their elected representatives, the Arab States especially those that share borders with Palestine and the United States which for decades has provided military support to Israel.
The creation of an independent Palestine State cannot be delayed any longer. For over seventy years the Palestinian people were denied a land they could call their home. This historical injustice must be corrected and the international community have a duty and responsibility to act now.
Sincerely,
Hydar Ally
