The Guyana Harpy Eagles suffered a significant batting collapse in the CG United Regional Super50, leading to their exit from the tournament at the hands of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, who secured a six-wicket victory yesterday in the semi-final.
Eagles’ struggles with the bat were evident as they were asked to bat first at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy and managed a mere 105 runs, their lowest total of the tournament, in 34.3 overs. The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force maintained their unbeaten streak, cruising to a total of 107 for four in 27.4 overs.
Terrance Hinds dismantled the top order, including the wicket of Shimron Hetmyer courtesy of an incredible one handed catch off his own bowling, reducing Eagles to 25 for four as the experience line up could not counter.
Opener, Tagenarine Chanderpaul resisted in a 43-ball 22 but after hitting three boundaries, miscommunication at the crease resulted in his dismissal via run out, leaving his side 43 for six.
Sherfane Rutherford, Eagles most prolific batsman of the tournament pushed Eagles over the 100-run mark with a 52-ball 30, featuring one six and three fours. However, no other batsman managed to reach double figures.
Hinds ended with a career best of 4-15 while Yannic Cariah with 2-14. Sunil Narine and Akeal Hosein chipped in with one wicket each.
In the chase, left arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul made an early breakthrough by dismissing Tion Webster for 10. However, a 58-run partnership between Darren Bravo and Kjorn Ottley for the second wicket ended any hopes of a victory for the visitors.
Bravo extended his outstanding performance by remaining not out at 53, hitting eight boundaries during his 70-ball innings. Ottley also made a valuable contribution with five boundaries but was eventually dismissed leg before wicket by Gudakesh Motie after compiling 35 runs from 59 deliveries.
Motie further showcased his prowess by taking three crucial wickets, including those of Nicholas Pooran and Jason Mohammed in the same over, concluding with an impressive bowling figure of 3-20.
