With the deadline for the submission of presidential candidates and their executive lists expiring at midnight last night, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) General Secretary Ian Alves remained tight-lipped as to whether incumbent Wayne Forde or any other persons submitted their respective slates.
Thus far, the only publicly known candidate that has submitted their list is former GFF President Franklyn Wilson, who presented his list of candidates to the federation on Wednesday. The electoral congress is scheduled for December 9th at the GFF National Training Centre in Providence.
When this publication contacted Alves to ascertain if any other slates had been submitted, he declared that the submission of candidates’ lists is handled by the Electoral Committee before saying that he was in a meeting and would return a call. This is despite Alves signing upon receipt of Wilson’s list on Wednesday, which was confirmed by a source close to the federation.
There has also been dead silence from Forde’s camp as to whether or not he would be seeking re-election. Efforts to contact the former Fruta Conquerors President for a comment proved futile, as several calls to his cellular phone went unanswered up to press time. A text message was also sent to his cell, but no response was forthcoming.
Meanwhile, on Wilson’s list, the executives are listed as Vernon Burnett [1st Vice President], Ramesh Persaud [2nd Vice President], and Gregory Wickham [3rd Vice President], with Althea Scipio [Ordinary Member], George Clementson [Ordinary Member], Raul Jerrick [Ordinary Member], and Otis James [Ordinary Member] making up the rest of the list.
Wilson, who currently holds the post of Assistant Director of Sport, held the post of acting GFF President from 2011–2012, after incumbent Colin Klass was suspended by FIFA for his involvement in the Mohammed Bin Hammam ‘cash for votes’ scandal in 2011.
