The Guyanese squads for the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) U17 boys and girls basketball tournament were named on Wednesday by the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF).
Twelve boys and girls from schools across the country are listed for the games, which are scheduled for Paramaribo, Suriname, from November 17–19.
The male team will be led by Head Coach Willon Cameron, who will have Warren Wilson as his deputy, with the latter also serving as the boy’s team manager. Meanwhile, the girls head coach is Abdullah Hamid, and the assistant coach is listed as Dennis Niles. The girl’s team manager is Ann Gordon, while Sileena Arjune is named the technical delegate.
Among the schools that athletes were selected from are Saint Stanislaus College, Kwakwani Secondary, the Bishop’s High School, Queen’s College, President’s College, Bartica Secondary, Mahaicony Technical Institute, New Amsterdam Multilateral, and Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School.
In the correspondence to the media, the GBF noted, “This dynamic and talented group of athletes is gearing up to represent Guyana with determination, skill, and teamwork as they aim for success on the court”.
“The GBF has been working tirelessly in preparation for this prestigious tournament, aiming to make Guyana proud,” they stated.
In addition, Ronaldo Teixeira and Courtney Taylor will be travelling with the delegation as the designated referees.
The boys squad contains Alafin Joseph (Saint Stanislaus), Arrien Vanleuin (Kwakwani), Brandon McKoy (Saint Stanislaus), Carmelo Mansonhing (Bishop’s High), Cordel Hoyte (Kwakwani), Ezekiel Griffith (Queen’s College), Ezekiel Saul (President’s College), Giovanni Tracey (Bartica), Joel Estrido (Mahaicony Technical Institute), Kelon Phillips (Kwakwani), and Shauntese Campbell (Christianburg/Wismar).
Similarly, the Girls Squad comprises Akeelah Campbell (President’s College), Alisande Jaiserrsingh (Queen’s College), Breann Richie (North Georgetown), Brianna Benjamin (Kwakwani), Kassidy Woolford (Christchurch), Lanasha Mohamed (Kwakwani), Malia Samuels (Kwakwani), Rehaicia Romain (Mackenzie High), Rihanna Archer (Kwakwani), Sherel Leacock (Kwakwani), Tayla Grey (Marcia Craig’s Educational Institute), and Tavishtie Persaud (President’s College).
