Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at around 7. 30 am on Friday on the public road at Pearl, East Bank Demerara, involving a motorcycle, CM 6193, owned and ridden by Mark Anthony Marks (deceased), a 41-year-old of Charlotte Street, Georgetown.
Enquiries revealed that the motorcycle was proceeding south along the public road when Marks lost control of his bike and fell on the roadway. As a result, the rider suffered injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
The motorcyclist was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Marks’ mother, June Sutherland, told the Sunday Stabroek that she had just gotten back from her mother’s funeral in Essequibo and was at work, when she received the call about her son’s accident.
“The police said he was speeding and that he crash into a post and hook up on the railway. He was coming by me and then to go and renew his licence”, she said.
The grieving mother continued “He don’t ride speed, my son don’t ride speed so I don’t know what the police are saying.”
Investigations are continuing.
